Charles Major Lytle American Legion Post 818 will burn the mortgage on their Legion Hall at the corner of West Hefferman and Minneapolis streets at a program to be held in the hall, Saturday, September 9, 1967, starting at 5:30 PM. It has been announced by Lymas Langley, Post Commander. The building was erected 16 years ago at a cost of $20,000. The Legionnaries have received a number of large and small donations to help finance the cause and the rest of the money needed to pay off the mortgage has been raised by serving dinners from time to time.
The Dougherty Family donated several lots on which to build a Legion Post Hall. They also donated money to help pay for the construction work. The building was finished just in time for the first district American Legion Convention ever held in Beeville. Lymas Langley stated " We are proud of our hall and grateful to the many people who have helped us pay of the indebtedness. We extend an invitation to our friends to witness the program we have arranged for Saturday evening."
Jack V. Sidwell of Freeport, Third District Vice Commander, will be one of the speakers. A number of prominent Legion Officers over the District have been invited to the meeting.
